South Hill is about 20 minutes north of Lake Gaston on US1 and Interstate 58. The 2010 population estimate for South Hill was 4,650.
South Hill is a major shopping center in Mecklenburg County. It has several major department stores, large grocery stores, and a variety of specialty shops including hardware, gifts, building supplies, computers, florists, antiques, pharmacies and auto parts. The town also has several motels and restaurants.
